Elsevier adds Polymer Matrix Composites Database to Knovel

Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announced the launch of the Knovel Polymer Matrix Composites Database. The new database helps companies replace existing materials or select new composites during the engineering research and design process, helping engineering teams increase efficiency in the early materials selection stage, lower costs of testing and maintenance, and ultimately improve material performance.

The Knovel Polymer Matrix Composites Database is an interactive compilation of composite tensile, shear, flexural, compressive and impact properties data for engineers involved in the component design process. Content within the database has been sourced from multiple providers and has been uniquely curated by subject matter experts. Organized into multiple tables, the database includes mechanical, thermophysical and processing properties data, along with relevant application information and safety data. The database is the only commercially available solution featuring design-allowable properties compiled and normalized in a manner ideal for structural, mechanical and materials engineers. It allows engineers to innovate with confidence when designing components made from composite materials with specific physical, mechanical and thermal properties.

Although composite materials can offer manufacturers a revolutionary approach to creating lighter, stronger and more corrosion resistant products, replacing components conventionally made from materials such as metal can make even the most seasoned engineer apprehensive.

Its interactive capabilities empower engineers to confidently identify composites that can perform within the design-allowable parameters for their particular application."

The database, which is sold as a premium supplement outside of the Knovel platform, draws its content from authoritative sources including data from NCAMP, AGATE and CMH-17. It currently includes more than 1,700 records on more than 100 laminate precursors in cured and uncured states, including matrix resins and fiber reinforcement data. The new database will make it easier for users to identify, evaluate and screen a wide range of materials throughout the design process.
