The German manufacturer of gas analyzers for bioprocesses is launching this large-scaled event this year for the second time. Scientific workgroups from research institutions all over the world can now register for the so called "BlueCompetition", run by BlueSens gas sensor GmbH.

In the last year Stephan Huettel from the Department of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the University of Saarland, Germany under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Rolf Mueller took the first place and won 5.000 Euro with an abstract about the "Methods to optimize myxobacterial fermentations using off-gas analysis".

From September till the End of January 2013 the competition stage starts and the projects will be about optimizing gas analysis in bioprocesses. New fields of application and fermentation techniques or simplified biotechnical processes could be the result of this initiative. Scientists from the Life Sciences, Biotechnology and other faculties are called on to take part in this comprehensive competition to find new and creative ways of analyzing gases in fermentation processes.

Now the deadline for applications has been extended. "We already have a couple of applications form various universities but it would be nice to bring the BlueCompetition to a larger scale this year", emphasizes Dr. Holger Mueller, one of the managing directors of BlueSens. Till the end of August project groups still can apply for this years run of the BlueCompetition.

An independent scientific jury will survey the results of the workgroups and define the first three winners. As a financial incentive for the teams the total prize money for the award is 9,000 Euro. The best reports will be published by the organizing company. For the project duration the participants also have the opportunity to receive a loan of gas measuring devices from BlueSens.
