Analytik Jena AG was singled out for an award in two out of seven categories as part of the formal opening event of the first InterLabTec in Munich. The company received prizes in the categories "Sampling and Automation Systems" and "Microbiological Analytics" for its mobile detection system MobiLab and for the new real-time PCR instrument qTOWER.

"We're delighted to receive two awards for our product innovations in the Life Science growth segment at the first InterLabTec. That means our endeavors in the area of research and product development have paid off", stated Alexander Berka, Manager of the Life Science Business Unit at Analytik Jena AG.

The InterLabTec award acknowledges the successful implementation of technical innovations in the laboratory for the dairy and food industry. The qTOWER is a real-time rapidPCR thermocycler. The system is up to five times faster than conventional qPCR systems and even uses standard formats for the microplates. The patented, fiber-optic evaluation unit enables the highest signal homogeneities combined with tremendous time savings and cost reductions. The MobiLab is a laboratory in carrying case format for the rapid, portable on-site diagnosis of molecular-biological pathogens, allowing nucleic acid extraction, thermomixing, rapidPCR and final pathogen detection in a very compact space. Besides laboratory applications, the MobiLab can also typically be used for rapid diagnosis at vets, the police, customs, airports, the fire service, railroad stations or in production plants for safeguarding product chains.

The InterLabTec aims to become established as a new platform for the European food and dairy industry in the areas of quality assurance, analytics and sustainability. The conference with accompanying trade fair was held in Munich from March 24 to 25, 2011. Analytik Jena was present as a gold sponsor at the international conference with an exhibition stand and two presentations on chemical-physical analytics and microbiology.
