VDI and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing cooperate

The Berlin-Brandenburg Association of German Engineers (VDI) and the BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing have signed an agreement of cooperation to establish better networking between research and industry in the engineering sciences. The chairman of the Berlin-Brandenburg regional association of VDI, Ulrich Berger, and BAM's president Manfred Hennecke signed the agreement in Berlin on 25 October 2010.

BAM and VDI intend to further extend the network between their various working groups and industry in the field of safety in technology and chemistry. The idea is to improve research performance transfers.

In the future, BAM and VDI will jointly support new generations of scientists and develop strategies that make engineering professions in science more attractive - an important part of making sure that enough technical specialists are available in Germany.

Berger and Hennecke were very pleased with the agreement of cooperation. "We want to make a contribution to alleviating the shortage of specialists", the signatories said.

The VDI is one of the most important networks and knowledge markets for engineers and scientists world-wide and is acknowledged in the professional world and by the public as the leading lobbyist for engineers and technicians. The Berlin-Brandenburg regional association is one of 45 VDI regional associations. It is responsible for looking after its approximately 6,000 members and all those interested in engineering.

As a material-technological and chemical-technological Federal Institute, BAM is responsible for the improvement of safety in technology and chemistry. It advises the Federal Government and industrial associations and provides expertise to administrative authorities and courts. BAM cooperates with universities, non-university research institutes and companies engaged in research, and is in close contact with foreign government bodies having similar responsibilities.
