Founder of the special glass industry - Otto Schott passed away 75 years ago

August 27, 2010, will mark the 75th anniversary of the death of Otto Schott (1851 - 1935). The glass chemist and entrepreneur is considered to be the pioneer of modern glass science and glass technology and the founder of the special glass industry. Otto Schott (1851-1935), founder of SCHOTT AGHe opened a small glass laboratory in Jena in 1884 that has grown to become the international technology group SCHOTT that is based in Mainz, Germany.

"Otto Schott ranked among the most important scientists and entrepreneurs of his time. The roots of our unique corporate culture at SCHOTT that can be characterized by technological expertise, power of innovation, continuous internationalization and assuming responsibility for both our employees and society can all be traced back to his impressive life's work," says Prof. Udo Ungeheuer, Chairman of the Board of Management of SCHOTT AG, in summarizing the achievements of its company founder.
